We all see them after or during a large snow storm. Stranded on the road, sideways sitting in their car because they are idiots. I know, I know…I am being too harsh right? Definitely not!. If you do not know how to drive in winter weather, then DO NOT drive in it. Let’s cover some possible ways of hopefully preventing you from becoming one of them this winter.
1: If you do not have confidence driving in the snow
Please do not drive in it!. Face it, if you get nervous behind the wheel in weather such as this, a small mistake can be costly. There are many ways to gain confidence driving in the snow.
Go to an empty parking lot, make sure it is snow covered, enough so that you cannot see the asphalt below. Also make sure there is no poles or any other things you can hit with your car. Take it slowly… practice braking and turning at various speeds and see how the car reacts. Do not rely on your ABS if your car is equipped with them. When braking if you start to skid tap the brakes till you come to a stop. Put your car into a slid using your parking brake, how is the car reacting? take control of the slide.
2. Learn from the pros
Go to a hands on winter driving school. Learn from the pros, get them to teach you winter car control. There are always one or two classes available in your area. There is a catch, some of them are very expensive if you are using vehicles supplied by them.
3. Prepare for the worst
Prepare yourself for the winter driving weather, you never know what will happen. Here is a very extensive guide on how to prepare yourself for this weather driving.
